New Zealand will send a five-strong triathlon team to compete at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, headed by world number five Andrea Hewitt.

Hewitt, Kate McIIroy, Ryan Sissons, Tony Dodds and Tom Davison will all contest the individual event and four of them will make up a team for the newly included mixed relay event.

The mixed relay team includes two men and two women with each athlete completing a mini triathlon of swimming, cycling and running, before tagging their team-mate.

Triathlon wasn't included at the last Games in Delhi but Hewitt did win a bronze medal at the 2006 Games in Melbourne, with team-mate Samantha Warriner winning silver.

Triathlon New Zealand's high performance director Graeme Maw says winning medals will be difficult in Glasgow, with four of the six podium spots at the recent World Series event in Auckland being claimed by Commonwealth Athletes.
