Ian Thorpe released from hospital

Australia's most decorated swimmer Ian Thorpe has been released from a Sydney hospital after successfully battling a serious infection.

The five-times Olympic champion contracted the infection following shoulder surgery earlier this year and initial reports suggested he was battling to save the use of his left arm, though his manager James Erskine dismissed those reports.

Thorpe was admitted to hospital earlier this year to treatment for depression after he was found disoriented in Sydney.

The 31-year-old's manager says he's unlikely to return to a rehab clinic following his release from hospital.
