Crusaders put Brumbies to the sword

The Crusaders have beaten the Brumbies 40-20 in their Super Rugby clash at Christchurch.

The home side ran in three tries to two in the upset victory over the Australian conference leaders.

Johnny McNicholl, Nemani Nadolo and Luke Whitelock crossed the line for the Crusaders, while Stephen Moore and Pat McCabe scored second half tries for the Brumbies.

Despite starting on the blindside of the scrum, the All Black captain Richie McCaw was forced onto his more familiar openside in the first minute of the game, after his fellow flanker Matt Todd suffered a calf injury.

McCaw played the full 80 minutes in his first game for the Crusders in over two months after breaking his thumb in the competition's third round.

The Crusaders lost two more players in the opening 20 minutes with injuries to the centre Kieron Fonotia and his replacement Tom Taylor.
