Premier League football wrap-up

7:19 am on 18 October 2009

Manchester United have moved top of the Premier League football table with a 2-1 home win over Bolton Wanderers, as Chelsea went down 2-1 at Aston Villa and Liverpool lost at Sunderland to a goal than went in off a balloon.

United won it with an early own-goal and one for Antonio Valencia to move to 22 points, one ahead of Chelsea who led through Didier Drogba but conceded headers to Richard Dunne and James Collins.

Tottenham Hotspur are three off the lead after they won 2-1 on manager Harry Redknapp's return to former club Portsmouth despite having former Pompey striker Jermain Defoe sent off after an hour.

Liverpool's woes continued as they lost for the fourth time in nine league games, 1-nil at in-form Sunderland, where Darren Bent's early goal deflected in off a red balloon apparently released from a section of their own supporters.

Arsenal moved into the top four with a 3-1 home win over Birmingham City.
