NZ take big lead to final World Series Sevens tournament

11:59 am on 5 May 2014

The New Zealand sevens team have opened up a near unassailable lead at the top of the world series standings, but coach Gordon Tietjens won't let them celebrate just yet.

This morning's 54-7 crushing of Canada in the final of the Scotland leg gave the defending world series champions a 19 point lead over second placed South Africa with just the England tournament remaining.

Bar a catastrophe the men in black should seal their 12th world series title at Twickenham next Monday morning, though Tietjens isn't quite ready to bring the champagne off the ice.

The London sevens kicks off on Sunday. New Zealand have been drawn in the same pool as hosts England, along with Argentina and Wales.
