7:29 am on 8 May 2014

The New Zealand sevens veteran Tim Mikkleson is in line for his second consecutive IRB Sevens player of the year award.

Mikkelson has been named as one of four players shortlisted for the 2014 gong, alongside South Africa's Kyle Brown, Fiji's Samisoni Viriviri and England's Tom Mitchell.

The quartet were voted by the management teams of the 15 core sides who compete at all nine rounds of the World Sevens Series.

The winner will be announced at a function following the final round of the World Series, which starts in England this weekend.

The 27-year-old Mikkleson, last year's sevens player of the year, is second on the 2014 top try scorers list with 31 for the season.
