Phoenix set to get reserve side in ASB Premiership

The Wellington Phoenix look set to get their wish, with plans in place to establish a reserve team in the New Zealand national football league.

Phoenix coach Ernie Merrick has pushed for a reserve side to help establish depth at the A-League club after struggles with injuries throughout his disappointing first season in charge.

The New Zealand Football chief executive Andy Martin says they hope to finalise plans for the team in the next eight weeks.

Martin says the Phoenix need support with strenght and depth and they're working with the club.

He says if that means a team in the Premiership, they'll look at making that happen next season.
