The Olympic and world shot put champion Valerie Adams has kicked off her season with a comfortable victory at the Diamond League meet in Doha.

Her best throw of 20.2 metres was almost a metre and a half longer than that of the next competitor, Yuliya Leantsiuk of Belarussia.

Adams, the dominant figure in the shot with two Olympic gold medals, four outdoor and three World Indoor titles, arrived in Doha with a winning streak of 46 finals and hasn't lost a competition since August 2010.

She's one of nine current or former Olympic champions competing in Doha.

Kenya's middle distance runner Asbel Kiprop easily won the men's 1500 metres, while Jamaican sprinter Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce won the women's 100 metres.
