Tottenham manager faced near impossible job?

A former England international believes the sacked Tottenham football manager Tim Sherwood never stood a chance of surviving at the Premier League club.

Sherwood signed an 18-month contract when he took over as manager from the sacked Andre Villas-Boas in December, but the 45-year-old's been sent packing after just six months in charge, despite leading Spurs to sixth place and another season in the second-tier Europa League.

The former Tottenham and England defender John Scales says Sherwood was always facing an uphill battle.

Spurs chairman Daniel Levy has now used eight managers and two caretaker bosses in his 13 years at the club.
