Van Persie to play for Dutch against Ecuador

The Manchester United striker Robin van Persie will captain the Netherlands in their World Cup warm-up match against Ecuador on Sunday as coach Louis van Gaal insists he needs game time after a long injury layoff.

Van Persie was out for two months with a knee injury, returning to play in United's last three Premier League game of the season, the first two as a substitute before starting against Southampton last weekend.

The 30-year-old striker has joined the Dutch training camp and will be play against Ecuador in Amsterdam on Sunday.
