Judo team for Glasgow Games named

New Zealand will have 11 representatives competing in judo at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow in July.

Seven men and four women have been selected, with nine of the team currently ranked inside the top three in their repective divisions in the Commonwealth.

The national coach Robert Levy says three of the team, world number one Darcina Manuel in the women's 57kg class, and Mark Brewer and Ivica Pavlinic both in the men's 81 kilo class, are based overseas and have been competing extensively as part of their Glasgow buildup.

New Zealand has won six Commonwealth Games judo medals previously.

Eighty-two athletes have now been selected for Glasgow with the final team size expected to be around 220 athletes.

Selections will conclude in mid-June with the namings of the Hockey, Rugby Sevens and Netball teams.
