HPSNZ breaks silence over Ko

High Performance Sport New Zealand has broken its silence on cutting government funding for the country's top golfer Lydia Ko.

New Zealand Golf had applied for more than $200,000 from HPSNZ to pay for Ko's coaching, travel and mental skills training leading into the 2016 Olympics.

However Ko and New Zealand Golf have decided that funding's no longer necessary following her recent LPGA Tournament win, which earned her $315,000.

HPSNZ initially refused to comment on the decision which was announced earlier this week but its chief executive Alex Baumann now says they had no input in the review but are happy with the outcome.
