Five straight for MotoGP world champ

The MotoGP world champion Marc Marquez has continued his perfect start to the season with victory in the French Grand Prix, becoming the youngest rider to win five races in a row in the top class of motorcycling.

The 21-year-old Spaniard smashed the age record previously held by the late British great Mike Hailwood who won five successive 500cc races in 1962 as a 22-year-old.

Marquez had started on pole position for the fifth time in five races this season but he had to fight back from 10th place at the end of the first lap after a poor getaway at the Le Mans circuit.

He reeled in the Italian great Valentino Rossi with 16 laps to go, extending his lead in the world championship to 42 points over his Honda team-mate Dani Pedrosa.
