The Auckland motor racing driver Scott Dixon has qualified 11th fastest for next weekend's Indianapolis 500.
Dixon, the 2008 champion, is on row four alongside former Formula One driver Juan Pablo Montoya and NASCAR legend Kurt Busch.
American Ed Carpenter won pole for the second straight year.
