The Waikato Bay of Plenty Magic have put two straight losses behind them and closed in on a ANZ netball championship playoff spot with a 74-56 win over the Canterbury Tactix in Tauranga.

The 18-goal win, marked by flourishes of Magic brilliance, was just the confidence boost the side needed with two major clashes - against New South Wales and Queensland -remaining in pool play.

The Magic struggled on attack early, but the Tactix couldn't take advantage as defender Casey Kopua stemmed their flow.

Ellen Halpenny shot 94 percent for the Magic and Mwai Kumwenda 94 percent for the Tactix.

The Magic are second on the standings on the same points as leaders Melbourne and third-placed New South Wales, while Queensland are fourth.
