It's now the Phoenix 15, Shane Smeltz 10 after the All Whites striker and his Gold Coast United leaked six goals without reply on his return to his former club.
Smeltz left the Wellington A-League side for Gold Coast this season and had until yesterday scored more goals by himself than the Phoenix had managed as a team.
The good old fashioned hiding moves the Phoenix off the bottom of the A-League ladder....ending a run of 6 straight draws to go into 7th place, and knocking Gold Coast down to third.
Phoenix skipper Andrew Durante was delighted with the club record 6-0 coreline, saying no one can deny they were due a performance like that.
Durante says they showed they can finish, after criticism following the A-League record run of six draws.
The Phoenix are away to the newly top Sydney FC this Sunday.
