First point at under-17 world cup for NZ since 1999

New Zealand's secured its first point at an under-17 football world cup in 10 years with a 1-1 draw with Costa Rica in Nigeria.

Winger Michael Built opened the scoring for New Zealand in the 19th minute before Costa Rica striker Joel Campbell levelled through a defensive lapse with 10 minutes of the first half remaining.

The last time the Young All Whites managed a draw at the competition was in 1999 when New Zealand hosted the tournament.

Their next match on Thursday is against Burkina Faso, followed by group leaders Turkey on Sunday. Turkey beat Burkina Faso 1-0 in today's other game.
