NZ wins six titles on first night of Oceania Swim Champs

New Zealand swimmers won six finals and Australia five on the opening night of the Oceania Championships in Auckland.

National record holder Matthew Stanley came from behind to pip the fastest qualifier and Commonwealth Games team-mate Steven Kent by just 6/100ths of a second in the final of the 200 metres freestyle.

Laura Quilter won the women's 100 backstroke, Shaun Burnett the men's 200 butterfly, Samantha Lee the women's 200 butterfly, Nathan Capp the men's 1500 and New Zealand the mixed 100 medley relay.

The 10th Oceania Championships have attracted 175 competitors from 14 nations for the pool and synchronised swimming competition.
