Three New Zealand gallopers remain in the top 24 after third declarations were taken yesterday for the Melbourne Cup to be run at Flemington today week.
The Awapuni mare Daffodil is 8th in the order of entry and the northern stayers Harris Tweed and Spin Around are 12th and 24th on the list respectively.
Two other New Zealand stayers are borderline for a start in the 6.8-million dollar Cup, Gallions Reach at number 25, and Cape Cover 27th.
And the Caulfield Cup third placegetter Vigour needs five withdrawals to make the final field of 24 which will be known after the last qualifying races this Saturday at Flemington.
