Hooper in line for Wallabies captaincy

6:38 am on 24 May 2014

Michael Hooper is poised to become the youngest Australian rugby captain for nearly 70 years.

Coach Ewen McKenzie won't reveal the successor to France-bound Ben Mowen until after his 32-man squad enters camp on June 1 for the three-Test series against France, but he admits Hooper has all the qualities he's looking for to inspire the Wallabies to greatness.

The 22-year-old flanker is jostling for the captaincy with the veteran hooker Stephen Moore, former skipper James Horwill and halfback Will Genia.

Ewen McKenzie hopes the next captain will lead the Wallabies through to next year's World Cup.
