Rosberg wins Monaco Grand Prix

7:00 am on 26 May 2014

Nico Rosberg turned his controversial pole position into a faultless victory for Mercedes at the Monaco formula one Grand Prix to regain the lead in the world drivers' championship.

The 28-year-old German took the chequered flag on his home circuit 9.2 seconds clear of his team-mate Lewis Hamilton who coped with loss of vision in one eye to just hold off the Australian Daniel Ricciardo's Red Bull in the closing laps.

Fernando Alonso finished fourth for Ferrari ahead of Nico Hulkenberg of Force India and Jenson Button for McLaren.

The luckless Sebastian Vettel retired on lap eight with a loss of power and gearbox problems.

Rosberg leads the drivers championship by four points from Hamilton with Fernando Alonso a distant 57 points away in third place.
