Reds captain fined for verbal attack on referee

7:07 am on 27 May 2014

The Queensland Super Rugby captain James Horwill has been fined $NZ 2700 and forced to apologise for an outburst against officials following the Red's loss to the Melbourne Rebels 10 days ago.

Horwill pleaded guilty to misconduct and for complaining his side were robbed by a stupid refereeing decision and has

SANZAR judicial officer Nigel Hampton deemed the 28-year-old's comments to not be particularly serious and took into account the fact they came shortly after fulltime.

The Reds were beaten just before fulltime, when the video official brought play back and handed a penalty to the Rebels, following an allegation of eye gouging against replacement forward Ed O'Donoghue.
