The world tennis number one and defending champion Serena Williams says it was just one of those days as she and her sister Venus crashed out of the French Open.

Both were beaten in the second round, Serena in straight sets by young Spaniard, Garbine Muguruza, the world number 35.

The winner of 17 major titles had her serve broken twice in the opening set, and her opponent made the most of a series of unforced errors by Williams.

After the defeat of China's Li Na in the first round, its the first time since tennis turned professional in 1968 that the top two women's seeds have failed to reach the third round at a grand slam.

Venus Williams became the first seed to lose in the second round, falling in three sets to the Slovakian teenager Anna Schmiedlova.
