Amcup venue unclear as Swiss consider both hemispheres

The venue for February's America's Cup sailing regatta remains unclear with Switzerland's Alinghi team saying they are talking with possible hosts in both hemispheres.

The Swiss defenders of the trophy are having to abandon their plan to face America's BMW Oracle team in the gulf port of Ras Al Kaimah, after a New York court ruled it was not allowed under the Cup's governing deed of gift.

The court ruled that a regatta at that time of year must be sailed in the southern hemisphere, or in Valencia,Spain which both teams had previously agreed on.

BMW Oracle skipper Russell Coutts says Valencia hosted the previous cup regatta and could be ready within weeks, while Alinghi says it is awaiting a written copy of the court ruling and is talking with both Valencia and southern hemisphere venues.
