The defending IndyCar champion Scott Dixon has finished fourth in Monday's second race of the Detroit round, storming his way into the top five after starting from dead last on the grid.

Brazilian Helio Castroneves took the chequered flag followed by Australian Will Power with Dixon's Chip Gannasi team-mate Charlie Kimball third.

Dixon, who started from 22nd place, managed to work his way up to third and was challenging Power for second place before a mistake while pushing to pass let Kimball slip by.

Dixon finished 11th in the first race in Detroit on Sunday.

The New Zealander has climbed to eighth in the overall drivers standings, 142 points behind series leader Will Power.
