A tourism operator in the Bay of Plenty says new government funding to upgrade its mountain bike tracks will bring international events to the city.

Gravity Park in Rotorua has received just over $200,000 to bring its tracks up to world competitive cycling standards.

Bruce Thomasen, who's the general manager of Skyline Rotorua, which owns Gravity Park, says the tracks will help Rotorua's bid for a mountain bike world cup event in 2015.

The tracks should be completed early in 2014.
