Controversy as Sri Lanka win ODI series

2:32 pm on 4 June 2014

The Sri Lanka cricket captain Angelo Mathews has defended the controversial run-out of England's Jos Buttler during his side's one-day international win in Birmingham.

Bowler Sachithra Senanayake twice warned Buttler for straying out of his crease at the non-striker's end before removing the bails to dismiss him.

England was bowled out for 219, which the tourists reached with 10 balls to spare also winning the series 3-2.

Afterwards England captain Alastair Cook said it was a mode of dismissal he'd not be comfortable benefiting from but former England captain Alex Stewart said Sri Lanka were quite within their rights.

The two sides now meet in two Tests.
