The New Zealand opener Tom Latham has brought up his maiden Test half century on the first day of the first Test against the West Indies at Sabina Park in Jamaica.

After winning the toss and deciding to bat first, the Black Caps have moved through to 116 for 1 midway through the second session.... Latham is on 63, Kane Williamson 44, while Peter Fulton made just 1.

The Otago off-spinner Mark Craig will make his debut, while Hamish Rutherford and Neil Wagner missed selection.

All-rounder Corey Anderson was ruled out yesterday with a neck muscle strain, while Luke Ronchi wasn't considered for the Test due to a chest infection.
