The Warriors will have a new captain next year with second rower Simon Mannering taking over in the National Rugby League club's leadership from Steve Price .

Chief executive Wayne Scurrah says it's important 23-year-old Mannering has every chance to develop as a captain while Price is still with the club he's led for five seasons.

Scurrah says the veteran Australian prop has done an outstanding job, on and off the field, and the decision to appoint Mannering is about the future .

Coach Ivan Cleary says Mannering has the qualities to be a great captain for years to come and it's the right time for him to take over.

Mannering says he couldn't hope for a better person than Price to learn from.

After making his first-grade debut against Brisbane in 2005 he played his 100th game for the Warriors in their final match of this season against Melbourne.
