The Central Pulse star Irene van Dyk has won more Test caps and awards than any other netballer - and now she has yet another trophy to squeeze into her bulging cabinet, after being named the Personality of the Year at the 2014 Wellington Sportsperson of the Year Awards.
The prolific shooter, whose international career spanned 20 years, picked up the award at a ceremony which was fittingly held at the TSB Arena in Wellington - one of the Pulse's home venues.
Van Dyk will add this latest accolade to the New Zealand Sportswoman of the Year award she won in 2003, gold medals in the World Netball Championships, two Commonwealth Games and two World Netball Series, along with countless other honours she has received in her long and illustrious career.
In the 2009 Queen's Birthday Honours List, she became a Member of the New Zealand Order of Merit for services to netball.
Meanwhile, the achievements of Netball Central Zone under-23 player Whitney Souness was also recognised as she was named a finalist in the Emerging Sportswoman of the Year category.
