Peralta on target as Mexicans beat Cameroon

Mexico have beaten Cameroon 1-0 in a rain-drenched second match of the football World Cup in Natal, in Brazil.

The only goal went to Oribe Peralta - the All Whites' tormentor in the intercontinental playoff, who scored five of Mexico's nine goals across the two legs last year - in the 61st minute, after Giovanni Dos Santos' shot was saved but Peralta followed up to score.

It's Mexico's first-ever win over an African nation at the World Cup.

The Mexicans had two Giovani dos Santos efforts controversially disallowed in the first half but Peralta's goal means they will now feel they have a good chance of progressing from group A, which also includes hosts Brazil and Croatia.
