Srinivasan confirmed as ICC chairman

11:40 am on 27 June 2014

The controversial Indian cricket official Narayanaswami Srinivasan has been confirmed as the first chairman of the International Cricket Council at its annual meeting in Melbourne.

His appointment is part of a constitutional change which gives the so-called big three of India, England and Australia greater control of the game.

The Supreme Court in India has banned Srinivasan from being president of the Indian Board of Control while a corruption investigation around his Indian Premier League franchise, the Chennai Super Kings, is carried out.

He says he's honoured to have been appointed to the role with the ICC and says he's committed to the promotion and development of the global game.
