The former Kangaroos and Queensland coach Wayne Bennett is to quit his job as Newcastle coach at the end of the NRL league season.
Australian media report that Bennett told Knights staff and players of his decision this morning.
The 64-year-old will make an official announcement after training later today.
He has been linked with several other NRL clubs, including the embattled Cronulla Sharks and with a possible return to St George Illawarra next season.
