The troubled Uruguyan footballer Luis Suarez has lost his appeal for biting the the Italian defender Griogio Chlellini during a World Cup match.
FIFA's appeals committee rejected the appeal filed by the Uruguayan Football Association, although it could still take the case to the Court of Arbitration for Sport.
Suarez was banned from all football activity for four months and nine competitive internationals after the incident during Uruguay's 1-0 win over Italy last month.
Suarez initially denied biting Chiellini but apologisied nearly a week later. Chiellini himself has described the ban as excessive and Suarez was given a hero's welcome on his return home.
