Outbreak at Comm Games village

1:15 pm on 17 July 2014

An outbreak of diarrhoea and vomiting has hit the Commonwealth Games athletes village just one week before the start of the Glasgow event.

The outbreak is thought to be the highly-contagious norovirus.

12 workers have been sent home from the village and told to remain there until they have been clear of symptoms for 48 hours.

Games organiser Glasgow 2014 says it's investigating the cause of the outbreak at the site in Dalmarnock.

The New Zealand team has received a health notice warning them of the outbreak, but no New Zealanders have been affected by the illness.

Only a handful of New Zealand athletes and officials are in Glasgow at this point.
