Massive police presence for Egypt-Algeria World Cup decider

9:33 am on 18 November 2009

15-thousand Sudanese police will be on duty for tonight's World Cup football decider in Khartoum between Algeria and Egypt for the last African place in next year's finals.

The two teams were ordered to play at a neutral venue after last weekend's match in Cairo was marred by violence.

Three Algerian players suffered facial cuts when their bus was stoned on their arrival in Cairo, and attacks on Algerian supporters after the match left 20 injured, while Egyptian businesses in Algiers suffered extensive damage.

Egypt won 2-nil at the weekend to finish level on points and goal difference with Algeria at the top of their group.
