Red Bull, Ferrari considered protest

Red Bull and Ferrari considered protesting against Mercedes after the dominant Formula One team switched their brand of brake discs without penalty before the start of this morning's German Grand Prix, which resulted in another one-two for teammates Nico Rosberg and Lewis Hamilton.

Hamilton crashed heavily in qualifying after a front brake disc failure and he raced with a different brand, while Rosberg changed the rear discs on his car.

Although the sport's governing body, the FIA said the change was within the regulations, Red Bull's principal Christian Horner suggested the decision had set a precedent by changing a car's specifications.

Rosberg has a 14 points lead over teammate Hamilton in the drivers' championship.
