Cyclist Jack Bauer could take some time to get over narrowly missing out on a stage win in the Tour de France, says Bike NZ's high performance manager Mark Elliott.

Bauer and Greg Henderson, who withdrew from the Tour after a crash, will spearhead the New Zealand attack in the men's road race.

Bauer is due to compete in the Glasgow road race on Sunday week after the Tour's finished but Elliott wonders just how he will recover from his narrow loss.

He says the former Takaka rider came to the sport late after being a courier and it could take a couple of weeks for him to get over this.

It was a rest day on the Tour de France overnight.
