The reigning champions finished top of their pool after routing Canada 39-nil in their opening match and thrashing Barbados 59-nil in their third.

Scotland threatened to end New Zealand's unbeaten record at the games in their second game in Glasgow, but the hosts fell short 14-17.

The New Zealand coach Sir Gordon Tietjans looked unhappy with his team's performance in that match after two of his players received yellow cards and two minute stints in the sin-bin.

Kenya finished second in their pool after defeating the Cook Islands 28-nil and Trinidad and Tobego 35-5 before losing to South Africa 20-nil.

The quarterfinal with Kenya is at 11:06pm (NZ time), before a potential semi-final date with Australia.
