King claims Glasgow bronze

The New Zealand number one squash player Joelle King has won a bronze medal at the Glasgow Commonwealth Games, adding a singles medal to her coffers.

In the third place playoff, King, the world number four, beat Alison Waters of England 3-nil.

The 25-year-old had already won gold in the doubles and silver in the mixed doubles in Delhi four years ago.

World number one Nicole David of Malaysia defended her title, beating Laura Massaro of England in the gold medal match.

Nick Matthew of England won the men's singles title.

The doubles competition starts on Wednesday.
