New Zealand will have two athletes in the Commonwealth Games women's 800 metre final in the athletics at Hampden Park.

Angie Smit and Nikki Hamblin both finished third in their respective semi-finals to automatically qualify for the morning's final, which runs at 7.45am.

Hamblin, who won the silver medal in the event four years ago in Delhi, says she's delighted with her run.

She says the plan was to stay patient and wait for the gaps, which is exactly what happened.

Smit says it was her dream to make the final and she also credits her coach for advising her to stay back until the last 200.
