The Bike NZ high performance manager Mark Elliott says the achievements in Glasgow won't mean much if they can't replicate it in Rio in two years' time.

A silver medal for Jack Bauer in the men's road race on the final day completed a memorable Commonwealth Games for the Bike NZ team.

New Zealand cyclists won 15 medals including six gold but Elliot says it's a stepping stone towards Rio.

"The Commonwealth Games is not the Olympics and we're funded to win Olympic medals, yip we've won a lot of Commonwealth Games medals, that's great but you know, we should be judged on whether we win Olympic medals and we've got two years to make sure we do that."

He says as soon as they start becoming complacent they're doomed to failure.

"We've got a lot of stuff we can work on and that's the exciting bit, you know right from performance nutrition, and it's not the stuff you see now, it's the stuff you see and what you do six to 12 months in advance."

Elliott says it's up to the New Zealand public and High Performance Sport NZ to decide whether they've been value for money or not.
