The five time winners Liverpool have been eliminated from football's Champions League, despite a 1-nil win over Debrecen in Hungary.

Liverpool needed Italy's Fiorentina to lose at home to keep their competition hopes alive, but a 1-nil win over Lyon put an end to the English club's Champions League campaign.

The failure to qualify is bound to increase the pressure on coach Rafael Benitez, whose side have won just two of their last 11 matches in all competitions and face a strong challenge from Tottenham, Aston Villa and Manchester City in the race to qualify for next season's Champions League.

Defending champions Barcelona beat Inter-Milan two nil while Arsenal reached the last 16 for the tenth season in a row remained top of their group with a 2-nil win over Belgium's Standard Liege.

Scottish club Rangers have been eliminated after a 1-nil loss to Stuttgart.
