Black Sticks captains take top awards

Black Sticks Women's captain Kayla Whitelock and recently retired men's captain Dean Couzins have taken the top honours at the Hockey New Zealand 2014 Player of the Year Awards.

Couzins and Whitelock were also recognised by Hockey New Zealand's chairman Dean Ellwood for reaching key milestones within the last year - Couzins surpassing 300 test caps and Whitelock for playing more than 200 internationals.

Southern's Kane Russell was named men's under 21 Player of the Year, while the women's equivalent went to Canterbury's Sophie Cocks.

Emily Naylor was recognised for reaching 250 internationals and becoming New Zealand's most capped female player in April this year.

Simon Child, Shea McAleese and Krystal Forgesson were also acknowledged for playing their 200th test cap.
