Cairns' lawyers want Vincent prosecuted

9:47 am on 6 September 2014

Lawyers acting for Chris Cairns have confirmed they've complained to the British police about banned former Black Cap Lou Vincent not being prosecuted match-fixing.

Vincent was banned from cricket for life in July after pleading guilty to 18 corruption offences.

Cairns has been involved in an International Cricket Council match fixing investigation but no action has been taken against him.

Lawyers from the London firm Collyer Bristow want Scotland Yard to pursue a criminal case against Vincent.

But the Metropolitan Police say they're yet to decide whether they'll take any action.

Vincent admitted to accepting $80,000 in bribes while playing for Sussex in 2011 and also confessed to fixing in English county cricket in 2008.

Cairns has also been spoken to by Metropolitan Police about details relating to his testimony in a defamation case he won against Indian cricket administrator Lalit Modi in 2012.

Radio New Zealand has been told that the Metropolitan Police are yet to meet with the British Crown Prosecution Service and no decision has been made as to whether Cairns will be charged over matters relating to that investigation.

It's understood the two agencies hope to make a decision by the end of this month.
