Tupou and Woodward suspended

The Counties Manukau lock Jimmy Tupou and Wellington fullback Jason Woodward have both been suspended for one week following separate judicial hearings for foul play.

Tupou was cited for striking Waikato first five eighth Damian McKenzie in the 80th minute of last weekend's ITM Cup match at Waikato Stadium.

The Judicial Officer found that Tupou had acted recklessly but not deliberately, when he struck McKenzie during a ruck clean out near the end of the game.

Tupou will miss Friday's match against Canterbury.

Meanwhile Woodward was also suspended for one week after punching Canterbury winger Patrick Osborne in the 42nd minute of the first half of their match last Friday.

Canterbury had referred the incident to the Citing Commissioner, and Woodward admitted to the Judicial Officer that he punched Osborne twice, claiming he felt provoked into doing so after an encounter with Osborne as both teams were trying to clean out a ruck.

Woodward's suspension means he will miss Wellington's home game against Tasman on Sunday.
