6:29 am on 17 December 2009

Australia are in the box seat going into the second day of the third and deciding test against the West Indies in Perth.

At stumps last night Australia were 339 for 3 after an eventful day which saw Ricky Ponting retire hurt for the first time in his career after being struck just above the left elbow by a searing bouncer from Kemar Roach.

Simon Katich was dismissed for 99, Shane Watson was dropped on 7 and went on to make 89, and the under pressure Mike Hussey is still there on 81.

Australia lead the series 1-nil.
