Breakers double up in Queensland

The New Zealand Breakers have completed a successful weekend in the Australian National Basketball League, beating the the Townsville Crocodiles 87-80 in Queensland.

It follows their win on Friday night which handed Cairns their first defeat of the season.

The Breakers are third on the table with a six and three record.

Last night in Townsville, Tom Abercrombie top-scored with 19 points Cedric Jackson had 16 and Ekene Ibekew had 14 points and nine rebounds off the bench.

The Breakers return home for a Friday clash against the 1 and 8 Wollongong Hawks.

The Breakers got their 'Sunshine Swing' road trip off to the best possible start, knocking off the previously unbeaten Taipans 79-71 in Cairns.

A big all-round game from import big man Ekene Ibekwe boosted the visitors as he scored 20 points to go with 14 rebounds, two blocks and a steal.

It was an excellent shooting performance for the Breakers as they knocked down 50 percent of their shots from the field, including 42 percent from three.

They got off to a fast start and led by by five after the first quarter, extending that lead to 15 by half-time.

The Taipans threatened in the third , but the visitors held their nerve to close out the game in the final period.
