Scotland's national football side have beaten the Republic of Ireland 1-0 in Glasgow in their crunch Euro 2016 qualifier, to move into a three-way tie in their group alongside the Irish and World Cup holders Germany.

Germany beat Gibraltar 4-0 and along with the Scots and the Irish, are on seven points. With two sides qualifying automatically, and one via the playoffs, the trio, along with Poland, are very much all in play in the group.

The stirring victory came after Wigan winger Shaun Maloney curled in a superb goal right on 74 minutes at Celtic Park. It came two days after the Irish assistant coach and former Manchester United midfielder Roy Keane was involved in an altercation with a fan after refusing to sign a copy of his book.

Elsewhere, Faroe Islands stunned 2004 European winners Greece in Piraeus to climb above the Greeks in their group and leave the hosts bottom.

And Northern Ireland lost 2-0 in Romania, who move above them by a point to top their group.

There are no more qualifiers until March.
