De Villiers has a dislocated knee cap and his World Cup is now in doubt.
The victory was only Wales' second win in 28 games against the big three of the All Blacks, the Wallabies and the Springboks, and the first over South Africa since 1999 having lost their last 16 before Sunday's triumph.
